I quilt!

I quilt!
Well, actually, it’s not strictly a quilt, more of a duvet cover, and it was super-easy to make, except when my cats skidded all over it as I was trying to pin on the backing.

I was very much inspired by these quilts at Bookhou when I made it in a rush for little niece Anna’s third birthday, as she’s in town this week. (Oh, and don’t tell her, but it all came out of my scraps box that is usually plundered by my studiomates for brush-cleaning cloths.)

There’s lots of other quilting going on around the web. Check it out:

- Jesse is organising a fabulous quilt squares swap, and even has a Flickr group to celebrate

- Lara has started working on a beaut of a quilt, starring her own fabrics

- And Michelle has great ambitions in the quilting department too.

It looks great – such a nice balance between the strips and the bigger blocks of colour.

Your niece should be happy. The color palette opens many design opportunities for the rest of her room. Well-done!

The quilting bug has bitten everyone lately and the results are so inspiring! Enough of the safety behind the keyboard: it’s time to get my hands dirty.

Sqeeeeaaaallll!! All I have to do is pop in and there is another bit of wonderment on your blog! thanks for the transfer tutorial too.

ooooh wow! I love it!! I want to do something similar to this after doing such a linear/busy quilt. Something with patches of tight detail and then large solid areas would be great. This looks gorgeous!

    I like!

I’m not much of a quilt person, but this modern take on patchwork is right up my alley! Very nice and minimal, but still sweet.

OOoo, love the color combinations — and I LOVED the ceramic transfer tutorial (for a long time I thought that it was painted on, haha!)

Love your duvet cover. I lived in London years ago and started making my own there. Now, I must admit you can get great ones in retail store for not a lot of money. I used to make them out of necessity. Maybe I’ll get back to them – yours has inspired me!

it looks great. yay for you.

Hello Heather. I’ve just discovered your blog via etsy – where one of your stunning tea towel designs leapt out at me! I was browsing because I am keen to try out some screen printing myself. I haven’t done any for 25 years since leaving school (!) but repeatedly want to try it again. Do you have any tips for good books or websites for a total beginner? If relevant, I live in England – in quite a small house, so it looks like my printing attempts will need to take place in the garage!
Wishing you many happy days of sunshine & creativity. Denise. PS: I’ll check in regularly to the blog, now I’ve got it bookmarked! Happy days.

    Hi Denise
Great to have you visiting my blog, and thanks for your kind words.

I must say, I learned about screenprinting by the seat of my pants, and probably best would just be to get yourself a screen, some inks and a squeegee and see what happens. Otherwise, I’m sure you could find an interesting tutorial at Craftzine or even just Google. It’s quite easy to do, so I’m sure you’ll have heaps of success.

    Best of luck,
    Heather
