Lampshades

Did you know that Skinny laMinx now makes lampshades to order? I bet you didn’t because I’ve been horribly slack about getting the news out. Nonetheless, this is the news  and the news is good.

There are three standard sizes, or 250x250mm, 300x250mm, and 350x310mm, all of which can be made up in any Skinny laMinx fabric within a week of ordering, and can even be delivered to you directly in a box! Bespoke sizes can also be made up, but may take a little longer to deliver.

Please get in touch if you’d like to order.

Upstairs at Skinny

The space above my shop/studio has been vacated, and the landlord has kindly been letting me use it for taking photos of all my new fabrics. The light is just amazing!

It may be heading towards Autumn here in Cape Town, but things came out distinctly Springy in my pics of the new Solid Orla cushions, now available in Strawberry and Plum too.  (SA shoppers, visit my online store at shop.skinnylaminx.com)

You Make Me Smile

Valentine’s Day is coming, and for once I’m ready for it (retail-wise, that is)! I worked hard on my shop window over the weekend with a Valentine’s message for just about everyone out there:

And if you want to share the same message of sweet non-threatening but heartfelt appreciation with your best friend, your boss, your mom, or even your long-time lover, you can, ‘cos I’ve made it as a pop up card too.

You’ll find them for sale in my Etsy shop, and also my shop for South African online shoppers and, of course, in the Skinny laMinx store at 201 Bree Street. Hope they make you…

Happy Year of the Dragon

I’m really not a horoscope or zodiac person at all, so am not sure what the implications are, but I do know that today’s the Chinese New Year, and that it’s the Year of the Dragon. Japanese stationery company Winged Wheel used my dragon papercut one one of their letterpressed New Year’s cards, and I love the way they turned out.

By the way, if you’re at the New York Gift Fair at the Javits Centre in early February, don’t forget to seek out the Winged Wheel booth (Booth #1770), to say ‘hi!’ to Rumi, who will be looking out for friendly faces :)

Flower Fields

Maybe I shouldn’t point it out, as I don’t know if anyone’s actually noticed, but so far every single one of my fabrics so far has been printed in just a single colour. However, that’s all changed now, with my brand new design called Flower Fields.

It’s got two (count them, TWO!) colours in each print. It’s a breakthrough moment! We’re all turning cartwheels at Skinny laMinx!

Flower Fields in (L-R): Goldenrod, Penny Black, Rosy

The inspiration for Flower Fields came from a vintage fabric cushion we’ve had at home for years. My design started out as a paper cutout of the same kind of flower shape (see below), which I made ages ago just for fun. Earlier this year, I turned it into a repeat, but never got around to putting it on fabric because I simply couldn’t decide which colours it should be printed in. It was only when I decided to use two colours that suddenly everything fell into place.

Now Flower Fields is available for sale online as cushions (here in US$, and here in ZAR)…

… and Flower Fields is also available in upholstery lengths. I covered our Ercol daybed at home in the Penny Black colourway, and it looks so fab! Email me for fabric orders and queries.
