I’m always doodling and sketching, usually whatever is right in front of me, which is probably a little revealing of who I am. Lately, I put together some of my sketches to make a couple of postcards, and it would appear that I draw a lot of pictures of dishes and pots around the house, shoes, and (of course) our dear little cats.

What do you like to draw?

Modern Macrame

To tell the truth, I’m not sure quite how cool it really is to knot rope, hippie style, but I can tell you it’s a lot of fun.

I’m holding a workshop in my studio, limited to 7 people, where I’ll teach the following macramé basics:

How to make a very simple, super-easy plant hanger
Three kinds of knots that’ll allow you to make all manner of knotty goods.

I’ve had a blast!

Wow, I really needed that. I’ve been feeling on the verge of burning out lately, with the tyrrany of the To Do list looming far too large in my mind. A plan had to be made, so Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week were spent hiding behind an email ‘Away’ message while I mucked about in the studio, and already I feel like a different person.

Monday saw me earnestly sewing purse samples, Tuesday I drove around, procrastinating, and Wednesday & Thursday found me my mojo, spending the day with fabric paint, lino stamps, bits of fabric, and absolutely no goals or intentions. I’ve had a blast!

Chuck in a bit of studio sorting, more sewing, and a coffee with a friend, and this week has been a total tonic. Without a doubt, I need more of that tonic in more frequent doses, so next time you’re trying to get hold of me, please be patient if you get my ‘away’ message – I’m probably sploshing ink about the place.

I’m stepping AWAY from the computer this week, in order to get my teeth into preparing new things for the products catalogue due out in August. It’s very exciting to put up that ‘away’ message and to know that this simple act releases me (to a degree) from the tyrrany of my email inbox. And that the weather at the moment is so exquisite means my timing couldn’t have been better.

Before I go, I wanted to show some of the fruits (both photographs and purchases) of my trip to Milnerton Market this weekend. Treasures abound!

Tomatoes

A frequent complaint around these parts (the wailing began after a trip to Tuscany) is that tomatoes taste like… well, they taste like nothing these days. In the last week or so, Paul has discovered a not-for-the-fainthearted, top-secret source of delicious tomatoes in Salt River, so we’re feeling very pleased with ourselves in the tomato department thank you very much. To celebrate, I dug out all my Instagrammed tomato pics to post here.

The lovechildren of Marimekko & Converse arrived in my studio this week, a few weeks after Citymob caused a rush of blood to the head, and they have finally got me around to photographing and listing a bunch of shoe bags online.

Due to my studio revamp, I couldn’t wait for Making Friday to put all that workspace to use! I was cutting and stitching by Wednesday last week, whipping up some cute little fabric buckets as I think about what to put in the new catalogue this year.
