Suggestions?
I haven’t had any illustration deadlines for the last two days, and have found myself sewing together the bits and pieces from my offcuts box in a manner bordering on obsessive. Now I have a very large bit of patched-together fabric, and I’m not quite sure what to do with it, other than just keep patching more onto it.
The back looks cool too.
So, clever readers, any suggestions for an onward life for this crazy thing will be gratefully received, and possibly even implemented!
PS: More patchwork at the Elle Deco blog today, and check out the amazing patches Jesse’s been getting in the post with her swatch swap.

I definitely see a picnic blanket emerging – one of those that you keep for years and has lots of memories attached!

I suppose a quilt or a throw for a cough are too obvious suggestions. but I would but a quilt like that for my bed or couch.
Can I blogroll your blog. mine is not a creative blog but i blogroll blogs i like. have a look at my blog and tell me if ots ok.
Jesse
A quilt is the first thing I thought of, but it would make a great curtain too. Or an apron! (Lined, of course. With red binding. Yum….) Tablecloth maybe?
Chocolate and Steel
Frame it with some batting stuffed in there and make it into a headboard for your bed.
It looks great!

funnily enough, my instinct is to with cut it up into cushions…or more interesting is to use it to upholster an old chair, that would look stunning. google ‘squint’ for inspiration (but actually in my humble opinion, your piece would look much nicer than theirs, it’s a colour thing!)

oh. that first sentance did NOT make sense. ignore the word ‘with’ and it should now work.

Hmm, thanks everyone. I think I’m heading quiltwards too. Just got to try to nudge the shape in the square direction a bit, I reckon.
Thanks Lu, for putting my hack quilting in the same bracket at Squint’s! Very flattering indeed!
Darkchocolate, you have a great blog and I would be honoured if you blogrolled mine on yours! You’re very sweet to ask.

What do you think about a trench coat?

a dowel at either end and a cord, attached to the ends of the top dowel, to hang it from–moveable room divider, curtain or artwork? Saw some setups like this in Japan recently. Can’t explain well but perhaps you know what I mean. It’s so pretty–I’d want to take it to whatever room I was in and let some light through it.
Jessie
orange you lucky!
Looks like a super neat bedspread to me:)
Looks beautiful.

I would def. go witha quilt or throw. I love it.

my first thought, and not sure why, was to back it with washed white velveteen or wide wale corduroy(so it will be soft), cotton batting in the center, and embroidered words on all of the solid sections of the front pieced section. use it, sell it, gift it as a baby quilt. ps. i agree with the red binding!

Oh please make it into a quilt – and then send it to me!
No really – it would look brilliant on a bed – if you can handle being that intimate with your own patterns!

oh, i love it. if it’s big enough, i suggest a throw, otherwise… it’d be a great overnight bag?

This is a beautiful modern quilt. Wonderful! Never seen one more fresh and current. I bet it would look smashing in your bedroom.
Erin
Yes, yes, duvet cover. And then please send it my way!

I have no idea, but it is gorgeous – I come from a quilt culture, so this would be my vote.
Just to let you know, your blog has again been named a favorite – check out Lara Cameron’s interview at my place when you have the chance π

Upholster a stool or chair seat. Or one of those large floor cushions. Also, I think it would make a great skirt. Or a kimono-type dressing gown.
Elizabeth
I think it would be perfectly suited to a quilt, or beach blanket.
Amanda
Upholster something with it, please. I think it would be fabulous!

I love the upholstery idea – im picturing a gorgeously old fashioned chase lounge…

Make it queen sized, quilt it, post it in your shop and watch me snatch it up for my bedroom*.

if you turn it into a piece that measures 350cm x 150cm, i’ll buy it from you to be a fabulous curtain/shade between the old part of my house and the new!!! π it’s really wonderful!!!

Please don’t ruin this beautiful creation by cutting it up! I viewed this posting yesterday and have been dreaming of it ever since. You must do something with it where you can look at it from afar. I feel like a duvet wouldn’t do it justice…I’m more in agreement with some kind of wall hanging, but even that isn’t worthy of this yummy collage.

I’ve been wanting to upholster something with patchwork too, but I’m not so good with upholstery. So I’m looking for the perfect danish modern chair with some simple square cushions. And I think your patchwork would look fantastic on something like that!
Ellie
what a beautiful, beautiful quilt that would make!
