    From the yoga bogs

    1 Feb 2008

    From the yoga bogs
I know it’s probably so not on to blog about toilet paper, but every time I go to the changeroom at my yoga class, I am so amazed and appalled by their fancy loo roll, that I just can’t resist having a rant.

I mean, WHY? Who cares about having pretty toilet tissue? Surely Dr Freud would have something to say about it. I imagine the decoration is supposed to make it look “nice”, but all it does is draw your attention to the bum wipe, which surely is worse than just having it there?

I think the other thing that bothers me is that this level of fussiness could be equated with all the other useless decorative things we have in our homes (pretty teatowels?), and it’s all just indicative of the decadence our late civilization society has achieved. Oh dear.

Anyway, I hope this will get it off my chest and now I can stop going into my yoga class hyperventilating about the bogroll. Really!

Have a good weekend, everyone! It’s going to be hot.

ps: I have to point out that I brought this section of loo paper home to photograph – I certainly didn’t sneak my camera into the yoga bogs just to blog about it. That’s wierder than having decorative loo roll!

Hi Heather. So agree. Erin often gets distracted by the pretty dolphins etc. Very counterproductive (in more ways than one:) )

I totally agree; or what about coloured tissue and don’t even get me started on the scented kind. That’s just wrong! 🙂

Couldn’t agree more (though it is a surprisingly pretty pattern, for toilet paper). People can be allergic to the inks used to print those patterns, so it’s a bit inconsiderate to have it in a public toilet, too.

Funniest line ever read in a bog, I mean blog.

Good to see South Africans just use bog as well, I thought it might have just been Australians. It does make me laugh when people mention who is on their blogroll, because of what it really sounds like.

Anyway onto the actual topic, very very true!

makes me curious… are there blogs about toilet paper.
i never talk about underwear f.e.
i should because i saw really nice ones.
And on decoration…i had a little discussion on the blog about it , because of an apron. conclusion for me : we need things around us that are stimulating our brains.
But i would draw the line at toilet paper , i like it plain.

oh i like a good rant! is this what your national railways project has done to you?! isn’t it funny what things annoy us…although i have to say, pretty tea towels are not in the same bracket as pretty loo roll.

bob’s comment is cracking me up!

Oh, you’re so right – that is so wrong! I’ve always felt very sorry for those innocent little Labrador pups that find themselves embossed on a certain brand of UK toilet paper…

Well I just had to laugh out loud when I read your rant! I have to confess that as a Canadian I wouldn’t have known what a bog was until I read this but I agree with Anna Laura – I think this is the funniest line I’ve ever read in a blog!! Thanks for making me chuckle out loud (at work)!!

Hee hee. Yesterday I talked about my arse and today it’s toilet paper. What depths to next for this blog?

Only reading the comments now! We use “bog” for toilet in Ireland too, if anyone’s keeping count! And occasionally say “I haven’t got a bog” in place of “I haven’t got a clue”.

I agree with you totally, I can’t even cope with coloured toilet roll. Plain white made from recycled paper for me every time. Good post btw
