20 Days of HappyThanks #9: Mungo
This post is the 9th in a series of 10 instagram-based giveaways devised to promote our fellow business owners, as well as to give us a chance to say THANK YOU to all the people who support Skinny laMinx on social media all year long.
A huge thank you to Mungo, whose very generous prize is also on my Santa list (details at the end).

In 1998, master weaver Stuart Holding started a passion project using two restored antique looms to weave limited runs of beautiful homeware textiles, which he sold in his wife, Janet’s shop in Plettenberg Bay. Soon demand outstripped supply, and production expanded to a mill housed in an old dairy building a few kilometres away.
Years later, things have changed a lot for Mungo: their team has grown to a family of over 60, they have left the cows behind, moved to their very own mill and opened stores in three South African cities. Last year, the Mungo team built a most beautiful purpose-built mill building on the grounds of Old Nick Village, near Stuart’s original barn, and next door to their flagship store. The mill, which is open to the public, showcases the development of weaving from the late 1800s to present-day, and if you are ever in the area, don’t miss the opportunity to visit.
The Mungo mill, business and products are a true inspiration for South African textile producers, and I’m thrilled to bits to have them as a business colleague.

The Mungo HappyThanks Giveaway
Mungo has generously offered a prize of a pure cotton, beautifully handwoven Itawuli Bath Sheet and Hand Towel set, in the winner’s choice of colour.
Interestingly, the striped detail that runs through the middle of the Itawuli makes reference to traditional woolen Basotho Blankets, which were initially woven in England and, as the story goes, the 1cm ‘pinstripe’ was woven in to indicate where the fabric was to be cut. But a batch with stripes intact made its way to South Africa, where the supposed flaw became popular and was incorporated into the iconic Basotho Blanket we all know today.
