Studio close up
Sometimes my studio drives me nuts. When the wind blows, it gets terribly dusty, and on a hot day it’s like a broiler in here. The sportscar rental place downstairs makes a huge noise with their revving engines, and I often wish for a neat, clean, quiet space to work in. But as Autumn approaches and the weather is gentler, I realise how lucky we are to have this amazing central city space. That’s what I think just before it gets freezing cold and starts to leak in Winter

Sounds exactly like my home/studio in Vredehoek. I’ve renamed the city bowl the ‘city wok’, because we fry in the heatwaves!

I love your site and your thoughts about your studio, and the frustrations you experience. I have a wonderful printing studio on my farm in the Magaliesberg, although I can’t say it is neat, but I really struggle with the isolation of living away from the resources in a city. Anyhow, Skinny Laminx, you are an inspiration to me who still has a long way to go (in the real world) with my printing. Jude

Maybe it just sounds awesome in theory – but having had bitter cold winter for what feels like half a year – I’d take a sweaty dusty loud studio in the city over my isolated suburban office – anyway! Maybe I should move to South Africa:)
Love the sample swatch! Beautiful colours together.

Come to South Africa! It’s great here, and we could use more people (the good crazy kind) like you here too

Your studio looks so fun and creative! I love the macrame plant holders, I found an knit magazine from the 70’s that shows a lot of macrame, I may have to start practicing, as you have inspired me!
Cheers,

So pleased you enjoyed your visit. Take a look at my macrame hanging garden tutorial at http://thinkteam.co.za/skinnylaminx/category/tutorial/ if you feel like making a plant holder yourself. It’s ridiculously easy.
