    Lifestyling

    27 Oct 2020

There’s been so much change and loss in the print magazine industry during this time of Covid, so it’s heartening to hear from JP de la Chaumette who used this time to launch a brand new online magazine, called Lifestyling.co.za. I asked JP to tell us more about the origins, plans and dreams for this publication, and what he thinks Skinny laMinx fans would enjoy!

How did you come up with the idea of Lifestyling.co.za?
I wanted to fill the gap that’s opened up since so many traditional magazine titles have had to shut, aiming for a smartly curated South African online platform touching on all facets of the stylish life. My multi-hyphenated team includes Mila Crewe-Brown as Editor-in-Chief, Martin Jacobs as Deputy Editor and Sarah Jayne Fell as Head of Digital, all of whom are entrenched in the local design and media scene.

    What do you publish?
The site consists of five main sections: ‘Spaces’, ‘Decorate’, ‘People’, ‘Culture’ and ‘Opinions’, offering a 360 degree perspective of everything that impacts our everyday lives from an aesthetic point of view. You’ll find décor, design, architecture, travel, art, food, fashion, as well as insights from a cross section of society, as we also want to open up eyes and minds beyond just the surface of style.

I think Skinny laMinx readers would LOVE our recent tribute to Gawie Fagan, our story about Binky Newman of Design Afrika, as well as this article about the 7 top South African vintage & second-hand goods stores.

    Who can access Lifestying.co.za?
It’s free! so absolutely anyone can visit, with no subscription or downloads required.

    What’s the feedback been like?
We’ve been delighted with the response. The best feedback comes from people who say they’re not traditional magazine readers but love dipping into Lifestyling.co.za online.

We’re boasting almost 7000 unique users to date (amazing, as we’ve only been around for three months!), and  while here’s an obvious South African slant, we’re seeing impressive growth in readership from the UK and Europe as well as from the USA. Clearly the world wants to know what’s going on in South Africa!

Is there a particular feature you’d like to highlight for our followers?
It’s like asking to choose a favourite child! But, our ‘Dear Stella’ feature is a cheeky adaptation of a traditional agony aunt column. Read what Stella, our resident style advisor, says about mixing patterns, and then we’d love to hear from your readers’ too. Ask Stella about YOUR style dilemmas!

Thanks, JP! We wish you and your team every success with www.lifestyling.co.za
