Zafu
It’s Making Friday, but I’ve got a nasty chesty bug and am not up to much today. Also, I had a great Making Wednesday this week, so I think I’m allowed today off. Just this once! But before I bugger off home to feel sorry for myself (and probably tweet about it), I did want to tell you a bit more about one of the things I made in last week’s bumper edition of Making Friday.
This is a round floor cushion, also known as a Zafu, and the idea is that is props up your bum while you sit in meditation. A zafu is generally stuffed with kapok, but what I love about my zafu is that it is stuffed with fabric offcuts, and this has made a substantial dent in the endless accumulation of fabric offcuts I seem to generate.
There’s a zip smartly concealed in one of the pleats, which means that if you have been doing some heavy meditation, causing the zafu stuffing to become compressed, it’s super easy to add more stuffing.
Let me know if you’d like to order a zafu. They’re fun to make (and good for my karma, I’m sure), but as they’re pretty heavy, I think they’re probably only viable for Cape Town customers.

This is gorgeous Heather! Bound to have a joyous meditation on one of these. Really not suitable for shipping?? I would love one here in the Netherlands…
