    Name dropper

    26 Feb 2010

I must admit to feeling a bit crass doing this, but it did happen, and doesn’t happen every day, so I’m going ahead with the name dropping, because last night I had dinner with…

Yup, Mr Tord Boontje came to dinner with the ELLE Decoration editorial team at our editor Laureen Rousseau’s exquisite Mutual Heights apartment last night. Also, the groundbreaking Brazilian interior designer Marcelo Rosenbaum and his wife Chris joined us for dinner. Both Marcelo and Tord were in town to deliver addresses at the Design Indaba Conference this weekend.

Tord Boontje is a lovely man – very gentle, very modest and easy to talk to, and we had an interesting conversation about his students at the Royal College of Art where he is Professor and Head of Design Products. He has brought 9 of his lucky students to the conference, and they’re teaming up with local designers and craftspeople to work on South African-specific design projects, which sounds very exciting.

And no, I didn’t get him to sign anything or get someone to take a pic of the two of us, as my crassness only extends as far as name dropping on my blog.

Now, back to earth and on with the sensible shoes as I go and do last-minute preparations for the opening of the Threadcount Pop Up Shop. Come visit!

Can’t blame you for name dropping after all one doesn’t exactly have dinner with a design legend every day of the week!

That´s ok. Just enjoyed his company, and just dropped his name. You were lucky for enjoying him as a normal person.
Imposible to visit. A bit far away.

No shame in telling us all about the special people you encounter (big names/small names). Lovely that you had that opporuntiy. Just the fine dinner, let alone the stimulating company- sounds like an enchanted evening.

PS- I won’t mind at all if you should someday ask to be in a photo with me to broadcast to the globe. 🙂

I’m gonna beat you to asking for that pic, and won’t be putting bunny ears up behind your head :p.

        Have a lovely weekend.

That’s awesome! Agree with Michelle, no shame in a bit of name dropping. Working for Elle Decoration must be the best! x
