BeBoKa
Some locals may know about the Name Your Hood initiative, where there’s a competition to re-name some of our Cape Town neighbourhoods currently just lumped together under a rather vague indication like ‘Town’, or ‘The City’. The area I work in, and walk through every day, runs between Buitensingel, Strand and Buitengracht, and is situated just below a very distinctive residential area known as BoKaap. I’ve proposed that this area (known as ‘Hood 2’ in the naming competition) should be renamed BeBoKa – as in Below Bo Kaap.
And very excitingly, BeBoKa has been shortlisted for final voting! C’mon blog readers, visit the Name Your Hood website and vote for BeBoKa. Help me leave a legacy (or make my name mud) with a click of your finger.

oh for goodness sake heather, there’s one called ‘breest’…how can you even bother to compete??? (or is it pronounced bree-st as opposed to breast in which case you’re a shoo-in)
