20 Days of HappyThanks #1: Dear Rae

Karin Rae Matthee is a jeweller in Cape Town, who launched her Dear Rae brand in 2010. Her designs draw on inspiration from her South African and German family heritage, and although the things she makes are beautifully feminine and delicate, sufer-girl Karin is adamant that her jewellery has to be able to withstand the rough and tumble of real, everyday life.
Karin’s passion for empowering and employing local South Africans has been a driving force in the business, and her production, retail and marketing team now comprises 12 people.
Each Dear Rae piece is designed and made by Karin and her team of manufacturers at the Dear Rae studio at the Woodstock Foundry in Cape Town, where visitors can see what’s happening in the workshop as they pick out the pieces that they love.
