Here Be Lions is a memoir of a childrens author who grew up in a rather disfunctional family in 1970’s South Africa. The publishers wanted a cover that would convey both a feeling of a South African middle-class childhood, as well as a sense of menace. They also wanted to include a childhood photo of the author. Jesse and I both submitted a couple of different scamps, and they chose to go with this one.Jesse knitted the background, made the paper doll and did the embroidered lettering. I did the cutting of the creeping vine. The book’s been published by Oshun Books, and the author is really, really happy with it, which is fab! (Read Jesse’s more detailed posting about this job here).
