    Pattern hunting

    10 Mar 2010

I stopped in at CAFDA yesterday and found an absolute feast of book covers to add to my fast-growing collection.

These Penguin poetry book covers are just amazing…

And even better from the back:

I found lots of others too…

…and then went mad with photographing ’em all.

Ah, the treasures and simple pleasures a 10 minute visit to CAFDA and a R100 spend can bring.

Great find. Love that the horse takes up 3 circles- very neat idea.

I like that one too! It’s amazing how breaking up an image with reversed colours makes so much visual interest. xx

Oh yes, tell Penguin to take on a whole new tack with the Dardik range. But take a look at the yummy things they’ve been releasing lately: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2008/11/penguin-classics.html. Mmm, I love an embossed cover.

They’re fabulous. I am glad to know I am not the only one who’s bought a book simply for the cover pattern.

I love these, the patterns are great! So colourful!

I’ve re-found your site since you moved from blogspot, so glad I have! I bought one of your purses (with Russian dolls on) from a little shop in Heidelberg, Germany two years ago and have been a fan ever since!

Wow, that’s great that you still remember my things after two years. That place in Heidelberg never re-ordered, but clearly the few things I sent there had lots of power! xx

Hi Danya CAFDA is a charity bookshop in Sea Point raising (I think) funds for the aged, but to tell the truth, I have no idea what the acronym stands for. xx

Wow, I’d not thought of looking at book covers for pattern inspiration – how narrow minded I am!! 😉 Although thinking about it, I have a couple of books by Scarlett Thomas that I picked up BECAUSE of their covers (and they are a good read too) – I love lettering too!
