Skinnylaminxenstein: What’s a clearance sale all about?

Although we’ve had sales before, the weekend’s Warehouse Clearance (now online until 6 September!) was something new for us, because we’ve never slashed our prices as radically as we’ve done for this one. These Skinnylaminxenstein posts are all about sharing some of the thought and ideas behind running this particular business, and so here goes with giving you some of the reasoning behind the crazy prices on the sale:

In a nutshell, we just have too much stock. After 6 years of producing an annual new collection of 3 to 5 new designs in 3 colourways each, our 2017 fabric book contained 70 options, and our warehouse was busting at the seams with stock of those, and even some that were not available to decorators.

And so, with all this fabric on hand, the question behind creative decisions was no longer ‘What is inspiring our new designs?’, but ‘How do we get rid of all this flippin’ fabric?’ Our inventory has become stifling, and I’ve been feeling up a bit of a creative dead end, really.

The decision in 2018 to add no new patterns, just the range of 9 Colour Pop colours has helped to give new energy to our existing prints, and has also been important as we’ve worked to clarify which designs to keep and to which we need to bid a fond farewell.

And so this Clearance Sale is really just that – a farewell to faithful favourites, so that we can embark on a new phase of creativity. Thanks to everyone who has helped us with this phase of goodbye. My team and I are looking forward to showing you what’s next!
