    Lucky lucky

    3 Dec 2007

    Lucky lucky
Last year, just before my birthday, Paul did something so spectacularly cheeky that he’s blotted it from his memory. He phoned our friend Artur to ask if he would sell his Ercol daybed to him for my birthday present! Artur said no, but I was pretty impressed with just the idea (and the chutzpah!).

This year, Artur phoned us just before my birthday to say that actually, he had decided to sell his daybed, and did we want it? Well, of course we did, and now, even though it wasn’t officially my birthday present, I’ll always think of it like that.

There’s a bit of work to do on it, so it’s in Paul’s studio (with some legs on it). Can’t wait to get it home though.

Check out a little eBay slideshow of another Ercol daybed here. I’m still in a daze that we actually have one of our own!

Oh my gawd! I love Ercol daybeds so flippin’ much! Wouldn’t it be awesome to score a nest of tables to match (like these… swoon… http://www.ercol.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=EOS&Product_Code=354&Category_Code=EO)

I’m so envious- you are indeed very lucky!

i stole my mum’s ercol dining chairs when i left home, (i stole her dining table too, how cheeky πŸ˜‰ they are the EXACT style as that daybed and i adore them. they have the kids scribbles/dried playdoh/squashed veg all over them, but they clean up brilliantly!

Where does the back go when it’s a bed? Does it come off, or slide under?

I’ve never seen one of these before. What a beauty. You’re designing fabric for the cushions, right?

      Hi guys
Thanks for being as excited as I am! Sequana, I have no idea where the back goes. There are some hefty-looking bolts at the back that suggest it’s not quite as easy as the slideshow seems to suggest.
      Cheers,
      Heather

Lovely blog! Just found you…and this post got me really excited because my mom just offered me her Ercol daybed! I love it. Going to replace the strapping on as it’s a little worn, but otherwise it’s soooo neat!
