    Making Friday 19 March

    19 Mar 2010

Making Friday was somewhat hard-won today, with everyone suddenly setting madly tight deadlines, and I had lots of custom orders to get through too. But I love my Making Days, I do, so I muscled aside the deadlines and whizzed through the custom orders and got to the real challenge of the day: making a lined purse with a zip space for change and a foldover snap closed section for cards and notes.

In the past, I’d used my Bookhou purse as a model for something similar, but wanted to come up with my own design, and I definitely wanted the zip at the back. So, lots of cutting, sewing, unpicking, sketching and muttering later, and finally…

Linen lined, pearl snap closed, with a zip to boot! I was so pleased with myself, I wrestled away deadline guilt (there’s always the weekend, right?), and made four more.

Oh, and I should have shared this fact here a while back, but that see apple green and seafoam fabric? It’s my  new design, called Cloud Birds, and I have it available in running metres, printed on a cotton/linen blend. Soon to be in my Etsy shop, promise.

PS: I just put the two Cloud Birds purses into my Etsy shop.

      Small, but perfectly formed!

I MUST get doing more sewing & crafty stuff – I just don’t know where my time goes! How about a ‘mid-year resolution’? :oD

I’m so impressed. Not only are they cute, but the fabric is darling as well!

I love the new fabrics and the back zipper – such a nice touch. I also like the slightly square shape – These little wallets look so nice with your designs.
Once the craziness settles – I hope to devote a day to playing and experimenting.
      xx

Thanks, Arounna. I do hope you get a chance to play and experiment soon – although you hardly seem short of fresh ideas.

Thanks very much for the inspiration for this little purse. I’ve loved using the one you sent me, and doubted that I could make something as lovely and useful as yours, but am pleased with my adaptations.

        Have a lovely weekend, xx

Look at you go! I’m turning out to be an utter failure at this. Need to get my Making Mojo on track!

No need to beat yourself up! You get a pile of stuff done anyway (a quilt counts for a whole year of making fridays in my books)
