Enjoying the Details
One of the books I love to re-visit is called Detaljer Hemma , by illustrator Annika Huett and Photographer Ulf Huett Nielsen.
The title of the book translates from Swedish as Details at Home, and it documents everyday details in ordinary (well, ordinary Swedish) homes, showing charming, yet determinedly un-styled corners, grouped into themes.
The muddled cupboards, the behind-the-sink areas, the backs of chairs are the kind of ordinary scene that I might tend to overlook in my own home, but on these pages, sorted into categories and photographed beautifully, it’s all just too lovely.
And ever since I first got this book, whenever I flip through it, I find myself prowling around our home, looking through my camera at our own un-styled nooks and crannies with new eyes.
Here are some of the results:
Isn’t it wonderful how the ordinary things you’re so used to seeing can suddenly appear beautiful? All I need to do is refresh my eyes and look anew!

Great post! Having spent a year “home teaching” Swedish kids, I gained so much inspiration from the bold colours, simplicity and functionality in their family home, especially loved how they fused “Africana” with their Swedish aesthetic.
