Accidentally Wes Anderson
Have you heard about the @accidentallywesanderson Instagram account, featuring photographs of real-life places that manage to encapsulate the peculiarly specific aesthetic that filmmaker Wes Anderson has claimed as his own, in movies like The Royal Tenenbaums, Moonrise Kingdom, or The Life Aquatic. The site founder, Wally Koval, explains that a common thread connects all the images featured: “Each photo must have a symmetrical composition, a typically pastel color palette, and a touch of nostalgia”.
I came across the account while in Jaipur with Ace Camps, and it changed my whole photographic approach to the Pink City. Usually I spend time noticing closeup details of shadows and colour juxtapositions, and suddenly my eye became more tuned to see bigger pictures and symmetrical scapes.
