    Hello, Twilly!

    29 Aug 2024

Twilly? What exactly is a Twilly?

In a nutshell, a Twilly is a shortcut to chic. And that’s exactly why Skinny laMinx has launched a range of wonderfully chic cotton voile Twilly scarves!

And what’s a Twilly for? Well, it’s a wonderfully versatile narrow scarf to knot around your neck, to wear as a headband, to festoon your handbag, or just to perk up your ponytail.

    The history of Twilly

Skinny laMinx certainly didn’t invent the Twilly Scarf. It was the brainchild of French luxury fashion house Hermès, who started designing these versatile ribbon accessories – made of silk – in the 1930s, and they soon became a staple accessory in every stylish wardrobe. Spot the Twilly-sporting superstar below!

The name “Twilly” comes from the word “twill,” which was the weaving technique used to create these luxurious mini scarves. Hermès may be the brand that invented the Twilly, but these fun, narrow scarves have become popular beyond the brand, because they’re just so darn useful!

A Twilly really is an enormously versatile accessory. It’s almost like a piece of jewellery! And there are soooo many ways to use this little fabric scarf.

How to use a Twilly #1: Knot it around your neck

Our favourite way to use a Twilly is to tie it around the neck, adding instant flourish and style to any outfit. It’s a fresh touch for a Summertime outfit, and in Winter, it’s surprisingly cosy to have sitting on your neck, especially when doubled up.

It’s endlessly fun to try out different ways to tie your Twilly; take a look at this video showing all the ways flight attendants tie their scarves! And even more Twilly neck tie ideas here,

How to use a Twilly #2: Use it to wrap a gift

We love the idea of giving a bunch of flowers – or any gift, for that matter – with a Twilly giving the final flourish on your gift wrap. There’s nothing like giving a friend the gift of chicness!

How to use a Twilly #3: Wear it in your hair

Short hair? Long hair? Either way and always, use your Twilly as a headband on bad (or good) hair days, or as a cheery accent for a plait or a flourish on a cheeky ponytail.

How to use a Twilly #4: Wear it as a bracelet

We have to admit, Hermès does the Twilly bracelet best of all. See some of their wonderfully chic Twilly bracelet ideas at this link

How to use a Twilly #5: Festoon your handbag

The thing about festooning your handbag with a Twilly is that it allows you to have a quick, chic outfit change at any minute, while perking up an ordinary bag at the same time.

How to use a Twilly #6: Highlight your hat

Some wear an ascot to the races at Ascot, but we like to sport a Twilly for the egg-and-spoon race on the last day of school! Add a dash of fun to your old straw hat with your favourite Skinny Twilly.

No matter how you wear it, a Twilly is a shortcut to chic. Find your Twilly here!
