    Blue Thimble

    12 Jun 2007

Now this is what I think Etsy meant by “handmade” when they started up.

The mysteriously nameless printer at Blue Thimble makes these marvellous prints , using dyes in a monoprint process that I don’t understand, but which sounds very labour-intensive. Beautiful. Info updateAha. Jesse, an expert in the art of Googling, emailed me what she’d learned about monoprints. Quoting from one of the sites she found:Brilliant fabric dye is painted onto a silk screen in a fluid manner. Once dry, a squeegee is used to pull a clear medium over the screen, forcing the dyes into the page. Thanks, Jesse!

Thats beautiful! Yes I create monoprints as well. I use silk dyes to paint with, let it dry on my screen then I use a wallpaper paste (there is a specific one that I use that works best) as the medium to transfer the image to paper (or fabric if you wish). It’s great fun!
