      Hello Heather,
I recently saw my family, in particular my parents, and ended up being given a packet of food of some kind that was closed with a wooden peg. You have to see this peg to believe it: it looks literally 30-odd years old; it’s worn utterly smooth and skinny with use, but the steel hinge that keeps it opening and closing is as strong as ever. And I held this strange everyday object thinking how weird it is that now there are plastic pegs and they shatter in a year or two, and people just buy more and more, and there are wooden pegs but the holding mechanism is seldom very strong, and wondering how much longer the peg I was holding would actually last. Anyway. Musings on consumerism and waste and hording that all came back to me when i saw your great post.

The Sloth, your ancient peg sounds worthy of a photograph. It sounds like it has 1000 words to speak at least.
