    Bags of, well, bags

    24 Aug 2009

    Bags of, well, bags
All weekend, whenever I could, I proudly wore the new handbag I made on Friday. It took me so many makings and undoings to get right, but it works a treat, and the fact that I managed to work out how to put in a zipped lining (without instructions!) still gives me a major thrill.

I’ve got a couple of things I’d like to iron out with this design – called the Bus Conductor – then I’ll start putting them into my shop.

It’s Admin Day here today, so it’s all about waiting for couriers, sorting tax, answering emails and blah blah blah. But what I’d truly love to be doing is getting back to my studio to make another bag – can’t wait to see how they turn out in other fabrics.

And in other bags news, last week I delivered an order of 20 bags in a different style which I’ve named the Alexander Sack. It’s a great big carrying bag, , and they turned out beautifully, but are maybe a bit expensive to make from the Sevilla Rock upholstery-weight cotton. I’m going to try them out in calico and see how those work instead.

The sacks look great! Having seen the Bus Conductor in person, I have to say it's an utterly stylish handbag, too.

Congrats on finding the right pattern, and good on ya for undoing/redoing till it's just right. The fabrics ARE gorgeous (love those colours!) but also look forward to see whatever else you try the bags out in too. (PS Ptooey to Admin! 😉

These are beautiful! And I agree with orange you lucky – when do you find time to sleep?

Simple – I didn't make the bags myself. Therefore, lots of time to sleep! 🙂

I really like that handbag – specially because it is one of my favourite patterns – I've got a tea towel in that fabric!

You can never have too many bags! Since I started making some myself, I'm even more addicted! These are lovely! The red one is gorgeous and my favourite print

i dont know how expensive you mean when you say expensive.. but i've found that screen printed calico fabric doesn't last very long in bag form. the ink fades rather quickly after a couple of swishes against the body. i'm quite sad as i made a bag using a big magenta printed on calico. just saying. in general, ink will fade over time on any bag of this type. but… seems to me the heavier weight fabric lasts a bit longer… i dont know. just sharing my thoughts. am loving the creative surge! wish i had the time to return to my creative endeavors!
