When Paul and I heard we were off to the US for his exhibition in NYC this month, one of the first people I told was Lynn Russell of Satsuma Press. Both Lynn and I supply goods to Heath Ceramics, and we’ve managed to collaborate on some letterpressed cards in the past, so we started thinking that my trip to the West Coast might be a fun opportunity for another collaboration, this time in her home town of Portland, Oregon. We decided to add another person, just to make it more interesting, and Lisa Jones of Pigeontoe Ceramics was the perfect choice.
And thus, Cloth Paper Clay was born!
Working by email over the past few months, the three of us have brought together aspects, motifs and elements of our respective work (see below), and then gone off to our studios and applied them to cloth (me), paper (Lynn) or clay (Lisa).
All together, we’ve made things from cloth, paper and clay that we’ll be exhibiting together in Portland, Oregon, on September 26. I can’t wait to show what all the finished products look like, but for now, it’s just this little teaser.
Excitingly enough, we’ll be sharing our launch platform with Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge, who will be in Portland on her book tour, signing her Design*Sponge book. We’ll all be at West Elm in the Pearl district, and hope to see you there too, on 26 September.
