Drawing Room 1
It’s so teeny weeny, but here’s a pic of the work I put on the first Drawing Room show in May 2005. I was using cut paper, cut vinyl and paint samples for these works. I’ll hunt about for more close up pics of these to post tomorrow.
This first show was terribly exciting for me, as I’d never exhibited any work before, and up until that point, I’d been churning out increasingly horrible pen and ink drawings for educational books, which was boring me to death. Drawing Room was my salvation!
We’ve done 3 DR shows now (see here and here), each of which has been a fabulous opportunity to try out new styles and techniques. I’ve found that one tends to keep on getting the same kind of illustration work over and over, as people commission on the basis of what they’ve seen before. My participation in shows has really enabled me to develop and show new work on a regular basis, staving off the stagnation factor quite effectively.
