Thanks, potholder
It’s starting to look gloomy and echoes are starting to sound down deep in my archives. Perhaps some worthy items will surface when I tidy up my studio, but for now, all I have are blurry pictures of a potholder, and a tragic tale…
It was my first attempt at tapestry, and pretty much the first pattern I’d made too. Lots of unpicking and considering and agonising went into this, which I believed would end up as a cushion.
I’d almost finished the tapestry when I went one evening to babysit my small neice. I expected to have lots of time on my hands, so I took along my stitching and a sketchbook and… a Bottle Of Ink.
Thanks to the hysterical child (not my fault), I got no work done, and when I got home, I unpacked my bag to find a great blob of ink right in the middle of my cushion!
I weeped, I wailed, I scrubbed and cursed, but finally resigned myself to the fact that my cushion would never be. A potholder was the only resurrection I could imagine.
It’s not a dignified end for a tapestry, but it keeps my hands cool, so why complain? And now that I think about it, this potholder was the impetus behind starting the Kraft group, which has made me lots of friends, as has also resulted in our Handmade Now! market stall at the Neighbour Goods Market! Thanks, potholder.

ohhh, what a shame. the potholder still looks awesome though. my boyfriend’s mum has a bottle of some stuff that’s designed to remove ink stains. we tried it on a jacket of mine and it worked! I can’t remember what it’s called but maybe have a look around – it might still be possible 🙂

This just makes it an original in an extraordinary way.

Thanks, guys! And wierdly enough, when we renovated our kitchen we painted it a colour that matched the potholder, just by chance! Spooky.
