Clever Kath
Clever KathWhile in London, we stayed with our friends Kath and Steve. Kath Leone is a freelance textiles designer, working with Jack Jones Design (recently seen at Surtex), working in both fashion textiles and in paper pattern design. It was so interesting for me to see a real life professional in action. I mean, look at the way she just whips up some paisley designs before breakfast!
I took a tour of the Jack Jones Design studio but (bad blogger again), didn’t take any pics. However, one afternoon Kath got back some of her embroidery design samples, and was really happy for me to share them on my blog.
These get sent off to India as drawings with colour swatches and the fabrics to be embroidered on, and then return, beautifully hand-embroidered, to be shown to fashion buyers. It’s really interesting to see how a fashion textile design is not just an isolated image, but is put together and presented for sale almost as a complete garment, so that buyers can immediately know what they’re going to end up with and how to use it.
Kath is very enthused about starting to blog about her work, and once she gets going, I’ll post a link. I’ve no doubt that, as with everything she does, she’ll blog just beautifully.

Wow, they are really stunning. I love the red flowers on the natural fabric. What a stunning summer party dress that would make.

These designs are great. It is wonderful to see creative textile design. …or should I say, a real textile designer. So often all it entails is tracing prints from overseas and putting them into repeats. This level of innovation is true art. Thanks for sharing.

wow. simply stunning. I would love any of those patterns to be on a dress of mine!
