NEST show
NEST showOn Wednesday evening at 6pm, NEST opens at Curious, Whetstone & Frankley in Observatory, Cape Town.
Jesse will be showing her exquisite linocuts, Alta Stegman will be showing her charming illustrations, and I have some papercuts on show.
Alongside the wall art, a selection of exclusive homeware will be on show, including linen by Helen Melon, Homebakes ceramics, bronze bunnies by Janine deWaal, cushions by Colleen Roberts and jewellery by Meld. Jesse and I are also selling our limited edition ceramic mugs and bowls.
For more about the gallery, and for directions of how to find it, click here.
See you at the opening tomorrow (but I’ll be leaving early ‘cos Evan Dando is in Cape Town for one night only. Eek!)

It sounds really nice, so sad I don’t live closer to Cape Town ;). From your stories, Cape Town sounds like a really exciting city with a lot of culture and art stuff going on. I think I always had this image of South-Africa as a country full of poverty, Apartheid and other problems, and never actually realised that it’s also a modern country with such cultural and artistic potential. Makes me quite curious: do you often have the impression that people from other continents are ignorant about living in South-Africa?

Hi Nina
Oh, it’s complicated here. SA has great infrastructure, a thriving economy, first-class financial sector, top universities and galleries and loads of excellent, world-class stuff all round… but it all goes alongside terrible unemployment and poverty, which affect the majority of people.
I think that most developing countries tend to have strongly contrasting worlds, and I’m probably just as ignorant about the exciting cultural and artistic things going on in other developing countries as most people are about South Africa.
But yes, it’s an amazing place – well worth a visit some time!
Cheers,
Heather
orange you lucky!
Love the comment above! It’s complicated almost everywhere.
Wish I could go to see the ‘Nest show’ as well… but it’s way too far. h:)

This would be worth a plane ticket! What a telling discussion too. Yes, it is complicated everywhere and poverty is not limited to developing countries. There is plenty here in the US, and stark contrasts between the haves and the have nots.
