Snot a good idea?
Snot a good idea?
I printed up these big business cards to give away to magazines when I was in London in May. When I posted this pic on Flickr, I jokingly called it a”business card you can blow your nose on”, and some people thought that a hanky business card was a good idea. I’m not convinced. What do you think?
Crazeee week this week, so posting here is likely to be sporadic, but will be clockwork-like over at Elle Decoration, of course (they do pay me, after all!)

I likes 🙂
Dishy
I really like it! 🙂 🙂
That way even if someone doesn’t pay attention to it, they could say put in the break room and someone else might see it. It’s much less likely to sit in someone’s drawer or wallet collecting dust. 🙂

I think they are amazing and hilarious. It is actually the kind of thing I’d be likely to frame. Much more fun than a small rectangular piece of paper.

Well, I could hardly see blowing my nose on your name… just the thought!
But at the same time, it would be novel. I like the idea of a mini dish towel better. It would be very handy in the kitchen.
Lovely Paper
seriously, that’s actually a super idea. it’s more funny than anything and it’s something that will be in their faces rather than in their wallet, or where ever it is that they store their cards… lost i’m sure amongst all the others. this one stands out!

i think it is brilliant and such a wonderful alternative to ANOTHER piece of paper.
great work!

I absolutely love it! I think that hankies need to come back! You are just the gal to do it 🙂
Oh! I love Cicada’s idea too!
orange you lucky!
Yeah! to mini dish towel! Keep the snot and Identity separate!
Love the unique way of self promotion you came up with:)
Pixiewinkle
Love the size and idea, but don’t promote it as a hanky, bad vibes having someone snot all over your name…like it is bad feng shui to put a business name on the ground (in tiles or such) because it isn’t good energy to have people walking all over you.
Maybe it should be a do-rag instead?
painted fish studio
love it! it makes a strong statement (not necessarily “blow your nose on me”) but it represents what you do. a regular old paper business card can’t do that as well.

umm…I see your concern. It is a very bold thing to do and I am not sure it would go down well. It would definitely be a talking point but a good one??? … I’m not sure.

The design is sensational and looks great on fabric that size But– the handkerchief use would be better suited to a cold-remedy than your textile/illustration work!
Is there not a small fabric utility item that would promote what you do? I think it’s brilliant to promote your work on fabric vs. a standard paper business card.
Not a potholder–too mundane and overused by loud companies in the 50’s. What fabric squares are used besides hankies?

Dishtowel! YES! Who ever said that, great job! Perfect.
I was thinking eyeglass cleaner but that’s nearly as dodgy as hanky!

I think it’s a great idea. It’s funny so I think it helps to make it stand out which is what you want anyhow.

I think it’s great and seriously doubt whether anyone would blow their nose with it? If they do they’re freaks and so be it… Kitchen towel is cute too.
vantiani
Brilliant idea.

So far, that’s 10 comments to 5 in favour of the snotrag, and one person’s sitting on the fence. I’m finding this all very funny…

my first reaction was that I thought it was a wall hanging not a hankie. It is an interesting marketing plan, however never underestimate the power of the card, its small and easy to carry and I still get calls on mine.

Go hankie! I carry pretty hankies all the time that I buy in Japan They’re not just for noses, ya know–I feel quite elegant mopping my brow or bypassing the electric hand dryer when I’m in a rush. Also useful with kids. And, the hankie MUST be pretty! So there. In Japan indeed the dishtowel idea is used a lot but I don’t carry the dishtowels around.

I think it’s perfect!
It shows the quality of your work and I think everybody will remember a beautifully printscreened fabric more than a simple piece of paper.
I want one of you “cards”!!
