Crazy plant alert
Crazy plant alert
One of our succulents has started flowering, for the first time ever, and we’ve had it for about 6 years. It’s been such a crazy thing to watch: The whole rosette-shaped leaf section just extended from the centre, so quickly, it was almost like someone was turning a ratchet and unwinding it. Now it has an explosion of lemony-yellow flowers.
My brother in law has the same plant – grown from a section of this one – and it’s also started flowering. Do any other Capetoninans have succulents madly aflower?

Same thing happened to one of mine. It tripled its size and then flowered in the same way. The original stem then died off but about ten fresh stems appeared at the base. Incredible!

This same thing happened with one of my succulents! It grew super fast just like yours. Hope it flowers for a long time.

Yes, they are so unashamedly exquisite (heel skaamteloos). Our aeonium (desert rose?) did similar. And it’s almost like they’ve premeditated the act and then just unfurl the already-formed-beauties.

Succulents are full of surprises, it seems. I think I should try to learn a bit more about them.

No succulents here, I’m afraid. But yours more than makes up for the lack of mine.

Now that you mention it, after 5 years of no flowers, my vygie popped these gorgeous yellow blooms this year. It was the best surprise!

When we were kids my parents had a agave type plant thing in the front garden. One holiday we were away for 10 days and when we came back these was this HUGE flower sticking out of the middle, higher than the chimney!

Yep! There’s a succulenty-agave sort of thing in my front yard that went nuts and shot up this 5 metre high flower back in March, and it’s STILL there. But now the crazy-tall flower has hundreds of tiny plants growing from it, and the leaves of the original big plant are no more.
I’ll have to get a photo, i think! They do look so call, don’t they? And so drawable!!
