Blogging and weaving
Blogging and weaving
One of the reasons I started this blog was to encourage myself to keep making things. Somehow, having somewhere to show them really helps me to keep up the good work – it’s like having a coach cheering me on from the sidelines!
Jesse gave me this very simple loom just before Christmas (thanks, Jesse!), and yesterday I tackled it for the first time, having great fun trying out different weaving patterns. So today I’m showing the very beginnings of my weaving project, and hope my blog will keeps cheering me on to finish the darn thing to post it here.
By the way, she’s a knitter, not a weaver, but as I’m weaving my funny little sampler, I can’t help thinking of Icelandic designer Helene Magnusson’s work. Check out the felted things in her Etsy shop too.
PS: I’m away until Friday, but there’s lots to read at the Elle Decoration blog all week, so do pop over.

Weaving looks like a lot of fun- I always remember the fiber artists at college and how they always appeared contented. I’d like to give a try on one of those crazy big looms that require your whole body! It’s probably a good workout, too.

Yay! I’m glad you’re using it!

Yay for weaving! I’m glad you are giving it a try. We are in the middle of planning a big cross country move so my loom is all packed away, but my next project is going to be rugs. I hope you have fun with it and get a chance to use a big floor loom sometime!

Can I borrow your cheer?

I absolutely agree – my blog also motivates me to complete things. I used to have a little “boulevard of unfinished projects” in my house. Now it’s more like an alley.
If the weaving bug really bites I’d recommend you go and spend some time with Norma Ordman of the Weavers’ Studio at Montebello. She has a wealth of weaving experience and she’s a wonderful person to spend time with.

I am so keen to try out weaving on a big loom, and Adri, the first time this thought occurred to me was when Jesse and I visited the weaving studio at Montebello. I’d like to carve out some time for lessons this year. We’ll see…

I have a loom like this waiting for my daughter to be old enough to use it. I never thought of using it myself. Maybe I should….
Cheeky Beaks
