I’ve had such the nicest possible papercutting project to do lately. David Fletcher, a singer/songwriter from Davis, California, got in touch and asked me if I’d like to work on his album cover. Either he’s the easiest client in the world, or else we were simply a perfect match, because soon enough he’d approved my cover artwork sketch (above), and I got down to cut, cut, cutting.
So often I find I’m pressed for time and can only cut one aspect from paper, and have to finish the rest in Photoshop, but this time around I got to make everything from paper and to photograph it as finished artwork.
This was such a brilliant project to work on, and David seems like a truly lovely guy. I can’t wait to get the real live album in my hands and to hear more of David’s music .
Jeez I have a nice job, don’t I?

Freakin’ love it! I sometimes cut black paper to do my positives for screen exposures. Now, this makes me want to do more…

This is wonderful, from original sketch to final execution… No wonder he’s a happy client!

Beautiful Design. I love your papercut. It’s awesome.
David’s music reminds me of my brother in law and sister’s, sort of. (folk rock indie)

Although, his sound sounds a bit more polished:)

Very pretty! It’s cool to see the slight shadows of the actual papercut – ever so subtly 3D.
(Your posts haven’t been appearing in my bloglines, so I was getting a bit worried, and came over to check – good to see you’re still here!)

you are a clever girl. it’s still a mystery to me how you manage to cut such instricate shapes. is it very hard paper? how do you prevent it from tearing?
