Lunchbox Cowboy – get yours here!
In April I wrote about doing the album artwork for David Fletcher’s brand new CD, called Lunchbox Cowboy, and on Friday a big envelope full of the finished album arrived here. It’s ridiculously exciting to see your own paper cuts on a record album!
The CD looks fantastic, and better than that: it sounds great too! Let’s see if I can boost David‘s fanbase by doing a little giveaway here, but you’re going to have to work for it, future fans:
Go to The David Fletcher website and listen to his songs, then tell me the name of your favourite track and why you like it. I’ll send five people with the best (and correct) answers a copy of Lunchbox Cowboy. Yeehah!

Okay, that is just so awesome! Your artwork looks amazing:) Definitely relays the vibe of the sweet and wondering tunes.
I am loving the song, A Second Chance. I want to share it with my little one. A good song for her to pay attention.
LOVELY!

it looks totally amazing! and i love his laid-back music! i listened to all five tracks on myspace this morning while i’ve been reviewing the galleys of my magazine. perfect music for that, but my favorite track is “oceanside,” because it makes me long to do just that…wander on the oceanside.
even if i don’t win, i’m glad you shared this music! and i love, love your cutouts–they look just great!
and yay on the NYT tea towel! that’s so cool! and very deserved!

Heather, this album cover totally rocks!! I love it! the colors, the shapes, everything combines just perfectly!
I listened to David’s tracks several times and my favorite one is Oceanside, for me it has the most beautiful rythm and just by listening to it I can imagine being there myself! “watching all the colors until they fade to grey…” oceansides have so many beautiful colors!
have a nice day Heather! and keep up the fantastic cutouts! 🙂

What a terrific combination of artwork and … well, artwork! I went to listen to David’s CD and, after listening to the 4 previews, I have to pick “A 2nd chance” as my favourite for its intimate, story-telling feeling… perhaps it is because of how ‘near’ his voice seems to be in that one … anyway, Josey Wales was a close second for me. Love today’s post! Thanks for the chance to win such cool art!

‘Josey Wales’ is the one for me.

I really liked his vocal soundings throughout the songs, particularly the “cowboy scat” at the end of Oceanside. My favorite though is Lucky Year. The rhyme and guitar riff at the beginning got to me. It reminds me of some song from my younger years, but I couldn’t tell you which.
“A Second Chance” threw me off in the set from his page, but now that I read the list of songs on the back of the album it makes more sense.
I love your back artwork of the lady looking off. I think she just finished a nice batch of soap.

You gotta be so proud! Love the artwork and need to go check out this music. Congrats!

I like ’em all – I’m listening to a lot of Neil Young at the mo and there’s something reminscent of his guitar style in there so it gets a thumbs up from me. If I have to choose one, I’m going to go for ‘Lucky Year’ as that’s what I’m planning on having… once I get my blog and website up and running… nnng…
The cover arwork is cracking, by the way! I’m a sucker for anything with a cowboy on it, but the silhouette things works brilliantly in this context. Love it.

The artwork is so fantastic!!! I really like “Josey Wales” – any whistling in a song get me everytime – and I also enjoyed the “Last Lonesome Apple” – very soulful.

I definitely agree with bethibrahim about “Josey Wales”. The whistling. Oh, how I love it! Your papercuts are fantastic and are just perfect for the quirky, smalltown, slightly urban feel of his music. This is the perfect summer cd, and I hope I can listen to it outside next to a fire. And whistle along 🙂

It looks brilliant!

His music is wonderful and obviously has great style if he wanted your papercuts for the album cover!
They are all gret but I do love 'oceanside' the best because i long to be near the ocean again which is happening soon enough.

Outlaw Josey Wales is definitely my fav. Your designs are awesome…it must really be exciting to see it in the finished product! I noticed when I went to his website that he's a local guy ~ just 14 miles west of here. I probably wouldn't have known about him except for your blog.
Pattern and Perspective
I love it, Heather! It's a great design for a great CD. I hear simplicity in David's music, yet inside it really fills me with a bunch of different emotions. For some reason, a good voice, an acoustic guitar, a bit of drum, a good tune…just make a person happy (me anyway). David's music would definitely be great in the car, for a summer barbecue, hanging out on the back porch with friends, at the pool with my sister…its that fabulous.
I don't know if I can pick a fave. I listened to all of them and tried to type the words so I could really understand the lyrics, while listening.
I really do like them all, but for purposes of this blog – I choose "Lucky Year". I just moved in with my bf recently and this is a song that could be "our song". Yes, that's cheesy; but, we just moved in together and so I have no more lonely nights, because he's here with me (unless he's away on business – but not usually). Sure, we argue like everyone else, but get over it in an instant. It's been my lucky year, because I found that missing piece of my heart in him.
If I don't win, I don't care. I usually buy the CD's I like in bulk and give them to friends. May have to do that in this case, because this is so lovely.

Congratulations on the great artwork!
For me my favourite track was Oceanside. It's a great song but the title reminded me of a great pub in my hometown; very laid back with awesome views of the ocean. Some neat memories of that place came rushing back as I enjoyed the song. Thank you.

That is one good lookin' album cover!
