My hand’s pretty stiff today after spending all of yesterday cutting up Sevilla Rock and making up swatchbooks. Anyone know if pinking shears can be sharpened? Sheesh.
I must still find a good way of holding them together at the top without breaking the bank, but have a couple of ideas (including this fab tutorial, courtesy of DaisyJanie). If my ideas work out, I’ll share them for sure.

cool. are you sending one to Ikea? (hint. hint). 🙂

Hem… Maybe you could try to cut sandpaper, it should sharpen them, no?

I'm sure the place you take your knives and scissors to to get sharpened can do pinking shears as well.
And as for holding the fabric together, have you thought of making slits and using split pins/ brass fasteners from the stationers? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brass_fastener)
Otherwise you could just use an upholsterer's needle and linen thread and stitch them togther across the top…

You could try japanese stab binding? There are lots of pretty patterns (a few pictured at the bottom of this link http://jennibickbookbinding.blogspot.com/2007/03/japanese-stab-binding.html)
Perhaps a little time consuming but shouldn't break the bank 🙂

Being from Cape Town, I have tried to find places to sharpen pinking shears, with no luck as yet! I have been using folded tin foil, which you then cut into. Not brilliant, but it helps. If you have a staple gun, how about folding a piece of cardboard or fabric over the top & stapling?

Instead of sharpening your pinking shears, get a rotary cutter with a pinking blade. Your hands will thank you. 🙂

Mine was made in such haste that I didn't really think through the 'best' way to handle edge fraying. I love your pinked edges with the adhesive – is that some kind of tape of contact paper? Looking great despite the pain!!
Cicada Studio
You can get them sharpened, but it's a pretty specialized service- try a local fabric shop for a contact. If you use the tape, you're going to gum up the blades. You might want to start by using an acetone to remove the goo. You should see difference.
I remember those sore hands vividly. That's why I bought this! http://cicadadaydream.blogspot.com/2008/09/swatch-cutter.html.
I need to do this myself… I hope to see the final product!

Looking very pro! A rotary pinking blade sounds like a nice thing to have….

Thanks for all the advice on the pinking shears. @Clair, I was considering the tin foil tip, but that rotary cutter with the pinking blade sounds brilliant! Thanks, @Wendi!
@Cicada Studio Wow, check out that monster! That'll save my hands for sure. Thanks for the acetone tip too.
@Shopping Sherpa, I'll look at split pins too, or maybe those bookbinding screws. I'll get there soon…

Yikes! Find a rotary cutter with a pinking blade quick!
Maybe you will have to look in a scrapbooking shop to find them…put those pinking shears in the recycling pile right now…very bad for precious hands.
