The scrapEep!
The scrapEep!
On last week’s Making Friday, I applied my mind to a big problem in my studio: what do do with scraps. One corner of my studio is devoted to the storage of offcuts, misprints and repairs, and they take up a lot of space. Thanks to the efficiency of Tammy and Molly, my scraps are all admirably sorted in bags and boxes and piles. But still, they must be used!
On Friday, I found my first solution to making dents in the piles of scraps: The scrapEep!
The scrapEep! is a pincushion (or baby toy) made from misprinted Eep! tea towels, and backed with offcuts of linen. But the part I like best, is that I’ve stuffed them with the skinny strips of fabric I’ve saved from trimming with my overlocker. It makes great pincushion stuffing, as it holds the pins really strongly, and makes the scrapEep! into quite a sturdy- and eco-friendly – little object.
Once I’ve made a couple more and taken some good pics, I’ll get the scrapEep! into my Etsy shop. Watch my pile of scraps (and carbon footprint) shrink, my studio space grow!

They're lovely, and the stuffing is genius!

Thanks! Feels so much nicer to stuff them with cotton scraps rather than that fluffy stuffing.

Cutest. Pincushion. Ever. :D. Then again, I might be partial since I love the Eep-teatowel as well ;).

They are lovely. Great idea. You could use them to make little things like purses, kitchen mitten to do a pair with teatowels, or little coasts…You can make kitchen ware kits, teatowels, coasters, mittens, aprons with scraps, as pocket, or tool holders…Ibb

Thanks for the great reception, and you'll see from the comment from DoJo Moore that punning runs in the family :).Great ideas for scrap use, Ibb! Want a job at my studio?

Eep! How adorable, and a great way to clean up and get the most use from your fabric. I'll keep my eye on your shop…I've been meaning get started on some patchwork quilting, and little scraps like this would be such a cool addition to a project like that. Would you ever consider selling a few little packages of your scraps?
orange you lucky!
That's such a clever idea:)Love it!

Heather I love those pincushions/baby toys!!I think you should sew some sort of beauty cases or pencil cases, I think they would look lovely with eeps on them! :)When are you putting the eeps in your shop?? 🙂 anyway, you're super talented! keep it up!!

what a great way to use your scraps – I always feel bad getting rid of the little tiny scraps – stuffing is a great use for them.p.s. thanks for your comments 🙂

these are crazy cute! and remarkably similar to something i'm working on for twerp (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wz5msy8bsa0/SGcEmMtPW0I/AAAAAAAAAI8/WLE97w7M3xk/s1600-h/twerp.jpg) – which is making me question whether your eep! was his subliminal inspiration! :S

such a great idea! I too am buried by my pile of fabric scraps and need to dig my way out. I was thinking of making some more cat nip toys for my shop, but my fur balls have confiscated every one of them. Karin

I love the little Eeps, every year I buy one or 2 christmas decorations for our tree – I think this will be the first, just needs a small tag to hang it with and Eep will be a 'eep eep eep-ing' on my tree this Christmas!

how thrifty of you, Heather 🙂
