Fooling myself?
A couple of weeks ago I spotted an angular skinny powdercoated metal lamp in a secondhand place on Kloof Street, and in a flash I was convinced it was the Jieldé floor lamp I’ve coveted for so long. So I snapped it up and bore it home triumphantly. But hmm, my triumph wilted a bit after I noted how very wobbly my lamp was, and Googled the real deal to compare.
I’m sure you’ll agree that the pictorial comparison below shows that I was sorely mistaken (mine’s on the left, Jieldé on the right).

So it’s a bit wobbly and not quite the piece of classic design excellence I hoped it would be, but it’s not a knockoff, it shines good light, and actually, I’m starting to like our wobbly, knock-kneed lamp for its own sake. He’s pretty cute anyway.

I think he’s gorgeous and cute!
I prefer “not quite right” things 🙂

Still looks good. Oh well it’s not the real deal, that’s life, huh?

Gorgeous colour… the ‘real deal’ Jieldés are available at Tonic here in Jozi, Heather. I have been coveting one too, as they are simply sublime (especially in the ‘flesh’) but they are scary expensive!

Hi Robyn! I’ve never actually known what a real Jielde costs, but my one was probably a snip which makes its wonkiness even more endearing, I suppose!

He’s adorable! And such a great color. Is there any parts that might need tightening to make him less wobbly or is it just the design?
skinnylaminx
Glad you like him! He has some very tightenable parts, but they’re pretty well-wound. I think he’s just always going to be a bit wonky 1 Thanks for your comment, Heather

i love him. he has a personality all of his own. and i like the way he sticks his bum out.

That’s a bum? It’s the tiniest one I ever saw. Now I’m jealous of my lamp!
