Making Friday 12 March
Put the trusty blade to work today, with satisfying results:
I felt like cutting something very fine and delicate today, and while I can cut paper pretty finely, adhesive vinyl is even better, because it doesn’t have fibres that don’t release. So I used vinyl and then stuck it down when I was finished.
But as you can see with the “ghost” version I drew on and then cut through onto the vinyl, it would be so nice made of paper, as it would be beautiful to see such a delicate freestanding object. Maybe I’ll get it laser cut and see how it looks.
Happy weekend, everyone.

Very pretty:) makes me want to do some cutout work… and than I remember how the fingers hurt from all the pushing on the exacto…

Cutting vinyl is very easy on the fingers. The knife just slides… Would love to see what you might cut out. Have a lovely weekend! xx

Man, you have some mad skillz.
My Making Friday turned into Making Swatches Friday. Not very creative, but at least it was hands on work.

He he. Mine started out with errands and cutting etc, but I managed to throw off those manacles by lunchtime. So nice to get those hands on, isn’t it. xx

I always love your cutout work Heather 🙂
I was interested to see on Rob Ryan’s blog the other day that he cuts white paper and then spray colours it later.

Wow, that’s so interesting! I’ve not checked his blog for a long while, but it sounds like it could have some interesting tips for me. I’d love to know how to hang a papercut work so that it isn’t susceptible to the effects of gravity, without resorting to sprayglue. xx

wow that looks lovely! i think you’ve inspired me to have a go 🙂

Thanks for sharing all your beautiful creations. Curious about the vinyl you use for the cut outs…is this vinyl you would purchase at a fabric store or is
it shelving vinyl that sticks on the back?
skinnylaminx
Hi Camilla I use the same kind of vinyl that people use for making shop signage, branding cars, etc. It’s sticky on the back. I’ve also used the shelving vinyl, but it does tend to peel over time. xx
