In Tribeca
The view from the top of our apartment building in Tribeca on Sunday morning. Forgive the off-kilter angle. I’m trying to learn GIMP, and haven’t figured out the tilt adjust yet.
Tribeca is a great neighbourhood, and one I certainly wouldn’t be able to afford if I was really living here. First impressions include a lot of babies in strollers, tulips that grow at the base of city trees (and nobody steals them!) lots of dogs, plenty of people on bicycles, and the most polite drivers I have even encountered in the world.
In Tribeca it seems to be difficult to find food that’s not organic (I have NEVER seen a supermarket the size of the Whole Foods across the road from us. There are sections we have still not even caught sight of in there), and I still haven’t spotted anything like a Hershey bar, which I’m desperate to try. There’s also an amazing abundance of fresh food markets around.
We’ve been spending our days walking and walking and walking, andΒ I think we’re starting to get how the financial district, Tribeca, Soho and Greenwich Village hang together. It’s hard to concentrate on which road you’re on when the incredible stores and galleries just keep unfolding no matter which street we turn into.

Glad you’re having a fab time. Pheasant egg omelettes for brekkas?

Forget pheasant eggs – there are Emu eggs and ostrich eggs at the Whole Foods. I’m telling you, this is a whole different planet! xx

For hershey bars, try any small candy shop, even little mom and pop stores. They are more likely to have them then Whole Foods. Or a different grocery store, like D’agostinos maybe? Or a pharmacy like rite aid? Check the candy aisles.
OR go to the Hershey’s store!

Aha, thanks for the tip. It’s probably a good idea to keep me away from the Hershey’s Store, so I’m going to blot out that travel tip from my memory immediately π xx

Interested to read that you noticed all the strollers. When I first visited NYC in the mid-90s I remember that also being one of my first impressions. I guess as an outsider I didn’t think of NY as a place for babies and children.
skinnylaminx
That’s exactly it, Guilietta. In my imagination, NY is a place for grownups. Glad there’s a place for kids in it too. xx

Wow! lucky you…enjoy!

Looks like food heaven!

It is food heaven… or hell, for someone like me who is paralysed by too much choice. Really, it’s beyond imagining how much of everything there is. xx

I so know what you mean about Manhattan Wholefoods. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven the first time I saw it. So must choice indeed!
Terri
ooh you are so lucky!
I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the Hershey bar, personally I find Hershey’s chocolate unpalatable.
Try Zabar’s on the upper west side for a chaotic jewish deli experience.

and no matter how many times you visit New York, it’s just as amazing each time. oh, skip the hersheys bar, and keep the mystery!
