Shh! IKEA’s reading my mind
Do I sound paranoid if I say that I think IKEA is intercepting my thoughts? Well, listen to this spooky tale, and decide for yourself: It starts when I took lots of photos of dandelions in Central Park one lovely Spring day.
About a week later, I decided to put all this spare time of mine to use by attempting the fine art of linocutting, and ended up with this somewhat hackhanded dandelion linocut.
And then, just a few days later, what should I find at IKEA (yes, I’ve been twice now), but these cork coasters with a dandelion print not at all dissimilar to my own.
I’m considering wrapping my head in tinfoil so IKEA can’t see inside any more.

such incidents happen a lot i think (though not with me and ikea;) i think it must be something with ideas and inspiration swirling in cosmos and thoughts attached to silver threads planting in different minds here and there all over the globe. or why not see the dandelion seeds like a good symbol for it all, they really plant themselves everywhere!
or just ‘two great minds’ and all that…:)

I really love this post – especially the image of your tin foil wrapped head!
Your lino cut is beautiful, I really love the circle of negative space (not sure how else to describe it).

Thanks! Will send pics of my head later 😉 xx

Hahaha! Good idea the tinfoil wrap. I imagine what you can feel!
But I like your work more than I like Ikea 😉

schpooky! it’s so similar. it’s like one of those psychic shows where he draws something and puts it in an envelope, then you draw something and then he opens his envelope and they’re exactly the same! da da daaaaaa!
p.s i almost bought that beautiful lampshade. we stood looking at it for about 10 minutes and decided against it coz it would be too difficult to clean. we are so old!

Zackly! And I do the same all the time with shopping (the old fogey thing). It’s even worse in NY: I walk into an amazing store and go “I want it ALL” and then leave with nothing, having talked myself out of it all for boring practical reasons. Ah well. Less cleaning can only be better. xx

Just possibly, you took it in subconsciously on your first visit. And then there is the small matter of production lead times. I’m being way to serious – it’s a fun posting!

This happened to me really badly the other day Heather – so its sort of a relief to see it happening to others. I saw something on line that was almost exactly the same as something I’d printed out and had on my wall. Broke my heart, I’m not sure what to do…
Anyway, so its good to see I’m not alone! Tinfoil, I hadn’t thought of that 🙂
(By the way, yours is much cuter than Ikea’s.)

Oh dear, that’s not nice. But why not blog both of them and see if perhaps you’re just being overly sensitive about the similarities? They might not be quite as similar as you thought.
xx
Samantha
I think yours is much prettier.

Aw, you’re sweet! xx

Interesting that! I would love to see your tinfoil clad head! Just don’t go to JFK like that! x
