New studio space
So, the big, big news, and what has been keeping me exceptionally busy over the last few weeks, is that we’ve moved in to the new store & studio at 201 Bree Street.
The brown paper  up on the windows is as much to generate an air of expectation as to hide the sheer mad level of doing-ness going on inside as we get ready for the shop launch next Tuesday. Putting up the awning this week was a huge moment. I have a million snapshots of it in stages of up-ness, and this is how it appears in the Bree Street sunset. Isn’t it adorable?
The shop isn’t quite open yet, but the work in the studio has gone on almost without a break. There have been loads of online shop orders to pack, a massive order from Heath Ceramics, as well as heaps of fabric to cut for The Silk & Cotton Co., so it’s been a little bit mad, but everyone has been completely amazing, and progress has been remarkably smooth.
“Everyone” really needs to be broken down into a bit of a list of credits for their award-winning performances from Before to After:
At Skinny laMinx – Pearl, Julie, Sonia, Tapuwa, Ina & Belinda
Architect/co-conspiritor/Project Manager – Jo Anderson (she’s amazing! Employ her)
Bashers & builders: Stuart, Craig & Simon
Carpenter:Â Arthur
Metalwork: Matt and Ronnie
Woodwork: Barry
Here’s Tapuwa and Julie cutting fabric at the amazing new fabric cutting table, with the astonishingly huge fabric store in view behind them. Now THAT’s what I call a studio! More detail below:
As soon as I can, I’ll put together a floor plan of the store & studio, just to show how it has been designed (by the amazing Jo!) to operate like a Swiss Army Knife, but for now I have to attend to myhuge To Do list before we open the shop next week.
Thanks for all the support and excitement from friends, family and Tweeters. See y’all in the shop

Congratulations! Your new space looks amazing (and well-deserved).
I saw your tea towels at Heath Ceramics in San Francisco’s Ferry Building yesterday. They had a big sign that said “Handprinted tea towels from South Africa.” I’ll take a photo next time I’m there.

Oooh! Next time I’m in CT – I will be there! The fabric store looks delicious!
On a different note – I’ve been out of SA for so long, that the ADT sign in the window really jumped out at me. I haven’t seen a security warning for so long. It makes me a bit sad :-(. May you never need them…

It all helps with insurance. The area is perfectly safe 🙂

Congratulations! I think Skinny L. ought to produce some paper wall coverings- some of the fabric prints already lend themselves to it, well. Or framed fabric (stretched over a frame & stapled ala Marimekko)! All this in all your spare time- hahaha!
Best wishes on continued success- I LOVE seeing it!
thanks for the images!!
