More fun than hoovering: Planning ahead
It’s about two hours before I head to the airport to catch a plane to New York City, as I’m heading up to New Hampshire to teach at the Fall session of the Squam Art Workshop. So excited, and nervous too.
While I wait for the taxi, I’m distracting myself with displacement activities like hoovering, dusting, and cleaning up cat puke… and planning exactly what I want to see and do and BUY in 5 short days in NYC. Here’s some shopping I may look into:
- From the Uniqlo Fall lookbook
- Orla Kiely in Mercer St
- LED wall lamp from the IKEA PS series
- Graphic Songstress cardigan from Madewell
- Hadley Mod throw from CB2
Last time I was in NYC, it was prior to opening my own shop, so although I was looking closely at how shops were put together, now that I’ve had my own for the last 9 months, I’m really looking forward to looking really, really hard at retail spaces, both to appreciate how they’ve been created, as well as to get ideas for my shop. I’ve also become a complete Simon Doonan groupie of late, so will certainly be making a pilgrimage to Barneys to see what he’s done with their windows this week.

Ooh, is that really the time? I’d better zip up my luggage and call a taxi. Follow my travels on Twitter and on Instagram, where I’m @skinnylaminx. Tally ho!
