I’ve been scrapping
No, I haven’t been meeting rivals behind the bicycle shed for a punch-up, actually. I’ve been attacking my pile of magazines with scissors and glue, which is much more my cup of tea.
I’ve been doing it for years now: tearing out pics that I love, and then when I have time and space to spread out, I assemble interesting groups of pics, and stick them into my books.
Lately though, thanks to honing my collecting skills on Pinterest, I’ve decided to have books devoted to specific ideas, so that I can have a better idea of where to find that fascinating picture I glued in three years ago. So now I have books devoted to the following categories:
+ Interviews & Profiles
+ Beautiful homes and lush images
+ Colour (and lush images)
+ Illustration
My Colour book is the most fun to do, because whatever I stick in there, I try to also make some kind of interpretive cut out or drawing that adds to the page. Of course it takes longer, but it’s nice to interact with the things you’re collecting rather than just greedily hoard, which is what I find my Pinterest activity ends up being about quite often.
Most of the pics I cut out are from my favourite magazine ever, which is Elle Decoration UK. I think it is consistently good, and I love the editor’s thoughtful and irreverent editorials (and tweets!), but for some reason, although I’ve seen Skinny laMinx featured in international titles far and wide – from Tokyo Weekender, to Martha Stewart, to Dwell, etc etc – my attempts to see Skinny laMinx goods & fabrics on the ELLE Decoration UK pages have been fruitless.
So… I made it happen for myself (see below)
Why not, eh?

I so love this idea of organising and “interacting” with your inspiration! I usually just cut out things I like and keep them in flip files because I never know what to do with them! Thanks for a fresh perspective on collecting inspiration in a world full of Pinterest boards (not that there’s anything wrong with Pinterest).

I like to cut out and keep my favourite inspiration from magazines but I love the way you have added your own work inspired by them too, great starting points for when creativity is lacking! The Elle deco feature really made me chuckle, its one way to get your work in magazines!x

I’ve that you have not been noted in Elle Decor Uk!!!!
So I have just mailed them a link.
Ridiculous. Also, I think the SA edition is better and always get that one….. Expect something from other side of world always seems fresher….
