Half Square
You may remember my recent blogpost about a visit to Spier Architectural Arts last month, but in that post, I didn’t mention that my visit was to talk about an exciting collaboration: I’ve been invited to participate in the Spier Architectural Arts’ official World Design Capital 2014 project (#WDC382_HALF-SQUARE)
The project consists of the ceramics studio working with designers (I’m the first!) on large panels, made completely up of ceramic half-squares, of the type you see in these pictures. What’s super-exciting is the collaboration aspect of it, as I’ve been given carte blanche with regard to colours, meaning that the Spier alchemist/ceramicist Karen Kotze and I are working together to achieve the colour range required for the design.
Here are some of our early thoughts in colour:
Once complete, my Half Square panel will be displayed in the Skinny laMinx shop window for a month, where it will be for sale, and lots of other panels will start appearing in other public storefronts and galleries around the city too. You can hear more about this at the official Half Square launch at the Spier Secret Courtyard on First Thursday April 3.
It’s too early to show my design, but if you see me peering abstractedly into space, you’d be right to think that I’ve got half-square shapes on the brain! Watch this space for more…
