Heath + Skinny laMinx collaboration
We’re super excited to announce the launch of the DIMENSIONAL textile range – a Heath Ceramics + Skinny laMinx collaboration.
At the end of 2015, Heath released their book Tile Makes the Room, and with this in hand, as well as my Ace Camps trip to tile-covered Lisbon, I had a brainwave and approached owner Catherine Bailey with the idea of creating a bespoke range of textiles based on their tile range. While we’ve been working with Heath for years, and this isn’t the first collaboration, it is probably the biggest, so we were excited when Cathy was enthusiastic about the idea, saying:
“It’s been such a great experience working with Heather and the Skinny laMinx team. We share so many of the same approaches and design sensibilities.
Over the years, we’ve built up this great collaborative rapport that makes all the difference to how and what we design.”
So over the next couple of months, ideas from the Skinny and Heath studios flew back and forth (here’s some of my prep work), eventually resulting in a rather beautiful range of textile prints called DIMENSIONAL.
There are three prints in the DIMENSIONAL collection, based on the Oval, Diamond and Triangle Dimensional tile shapes – so named because they are slip cast in three dimensions, causing interesting light and shadow effects when laid. In developing the pattern ideas, I wanted to use my signature simple, mid-century inspired style to interpret this light and shadow effect of the dimensional Heath tiles, and used a combination of broken and solid surfaces to create an effect of light and shadow.
DIMENSIONAL is screenprinted on textured heavyweight cotton basecloth in the moody blues and browns of Heath’s winter seasonal palette. Just look at these gorgeous vases, bowls, lidded jars and plates, all of which are released in Heath stores this week.
You’ll find table runners, napkins, pillows and bags in the Dimensional fabrics exclusively in the Heath Ceramics stores in Sausalito, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and at Skinny laMinx, of course!
