Post-Trump Making Friday
I was in my studio on Wednesday morning last week, when I heard the news that Donald Trump had won the US election. Like many others, I felt pretty stunned by the news, and really not quite sure what to do with this information. So I sat down and made a drawing of a little balcony garden (not unlike our Caprese Lounge) and spent the rest of the day focussed on making the cut out.
I suppose that’s what you do, in times of doubt and fear and worry: you just do the things you know you CAN do. And apart from making papercuts, I know I can commit to be honest, kind, hopeful, generous and friendly in all my dealings. I can be careful to examine my intentions and adjust my assumptions. I can also work at creating a positive, fulfilling work environment, and I can do my very best to care for the future of our planet.
It’s not an anaesthetised escape from bad news in the way making my papercut was, but it seems like a good way forward.
