Down the garden path in Porto
Ah, holidays. They’re not just great for exploration, art galleries and wine with lunch, they’re also an opportunity to peer over the boundaries of our quotidian existence, imagining another (a nicer, kinder, happier) self, living a whole different life.
This is exactly what our recent visit to Porto dealt us in spades, largely due to the place we made home. For four days, we glimpsed our new life, tucked away in garden apartment, far behind a tall green Art Nouveau building (access was through a vinyl store), and flanked by a long, thin flower garden, under one of the biggest gum trees we’ve ever seen.
Miraculously, even the colours in our apartment were bang on with the few clothes I’d packed (all pinks, chartreuses and tobacco colours). I’ve never felt so coordinated in my life!
And if you think all that looks good, the best is yet to come: The arrival of Denis really made this dream holiday stay into a home from home.
Ah, Porto. The dream is real…
