Making Friday: snakes alive!
Today’s Making Friday news may give you a baffling glimpse into my psyche, but it’s pretty good for a giggle anyway, so here goes:
It starts with me arriving at the Think Tank and, as usual, not quite knowing what I want to do, but knowing that the important part is to just make something.
I’d been swooning over the paintings of Lily Stockman (one of those divine Block Shop sisters), so I thought I’d try making a two- or three-colour lino print on fabric with these kinds of vibrating colours and swoopy female power shapes as inspiration.
I had a great day in the studio, and made lots of prints, quite happy with how they turned out, but when I posted one on Instagram to promote another round of my How Pattern Works workshops, I saw another shape entirely.
Eh? How Lily’s ultrafeminine paintings caused me to make this (kind of adorable) phallic print is a matter for the Freudians to tackle, but I think I’m unlikely to be adding this one to the core Skinny laMinx line.
happy wheels
very good. thank you
