Mia, are you culpa?
I bought these Mia shoes at Urban Outfitters, adding to my growing collection of wooden shoes, and proceeded to wear them for a long trek through Williamsburg and Brooklyn yesterday.
Now today, I have a knee that’s practically hobbled me, causing today to be spent almost entirely indoors. I don’t think I can blame the shoes, rather the fact that I sat on an aeroplane for 18 hours, followed up by 10 straight hours of walking on day 1 of our visit. Not really a prescription for knee health, is it?
Anyway, my time indoors was well spent, as I made a small cutout illustration of the standoff between the Williamsburg Hasidim and the encroaching hipsters. I call it High Noon in Williamsburg.

Oh man! I understand how you feel about the feet thing. Upon our arrival to Boston (18 hours as well! Fun!), we decided to walk all the way to Harvard from our apartment, just to get a feel for the area that we were living in. I thought it would be easy, but it was mid-summer. I’m pretty sure I had a few mirages on the way 😉 I think it also helped with the jetlag as we slept at appropriate hours afterward 🙂
We were just too exhausted after a full day of walking.
I <3 NY 🙂
I really want to go for one more weekend before we leave Boston and head back to SA.
I can't get over North Atlantic salmon and how delicious it tastes. Yum. That's my favourite buy at Whole Foods.
Please go often to my favourite place in NYC – MoMA 🙂
I <3 Whole Foods, but they're pretty pricey and unfriendly to our SA student budget :/
I think you'll be pretty shocked at the price of tomatoes :/ For me as a SA Indian, that was a major catastrophe as it forms a basis of a good curry. I ended up using canned organic crushed tomatoes instead. *sigh*

balthazar – spring st, pastis, the cupping room – west broadway – near anthropolgie, kelly & ping – think on mercer…all nice spots to eat & enjoy the vibe
in nyc for the night, we got stranded in l.a. due to volcano, was meant to go to london, then home back to s.a. – our business trip, not so good with all this drama!
enjoy nyc & travel safe

Isn’t UOs just great? I can relate to your walking/sore feet and knees tale. I went to NY in 08 and it’s a 27 hour flight from Australia. Not good for mind, body or soul!!! But so totally worth it.

Love the cutout. I cant wait to see the range of cutouts with 6-weeks worth of local NYC themes.
My knee gave in after 4 days of walking NY flat. It is worth it though!

Looks like you’re already immersed! Maybe trusty Converse for next 10 hour walking day? 🙂
Asiye
great cut out.
love the shoes! but maybe they not really the ideal walking companions..;)
hope your knee will recover quickly and we will get to see more of the big apple

HI
Forget style go for sneakers. IF you are wanting a Hershey Bar and the full american consumer experience head up to 34th street Herald square for excess- the non organic version. While there however you must go to Daffy’s some good deals on nice European clothing.
Go here for incredible clothes at give away prices (usually too small for me) I am in LA and I do not know how this mass retailer keeps so many unusual pieces at these prices (some nice gifts to take back?)

Many thanks for the tips, once again! And yes, I’ve been longingly gazing at my lovely Swedish Hasbeens and Mia shoes, but being sensible and opting for the Hush Puppies. sigh. You’ve never posted your url before – what a great blog! What great things you’ve found! Most impressed. xx

Each time I have gone to NYC I have walked all day and no matter what shoes I wear, I get sore feet!

I’m starting to get used to it, I think! Thank goodness for a bit of warm weather and the chance to wear sandals though (sensible ones this time). xx
