Making Friday: 25 June
My camera’s gone kaput, which is hugely frustrating, and I’m praying to the camera gods for a miracle (along the lines of Canon feeling dreadful and replacing my 2 year old G9 with a spanking new G11. I can dream), and so I didn’t take any shots of my Making Friday last week. But I can tell you it was a hugely fruitful day, inspired by images of things like:

Armed with all this inspiration, I got out my knife and did four hours straight cutting. Sheer bliss. And the best part is that this cutout has turned into a brand new tea towel design. It’s not yet ready to be revealed, but here’s a little sneak peek of the direction it’s heading in:

Ah teacups! My favourite subject. Along with tea pots and jugs.
I love it!

Did you cut each and every dot out with a knife??!
I love the cups… so perky and neatly stacked.

No I didn’t! I cut the cups, but the dots were drawn by hand, then traced in Illustrator, then dropped behind the cups in Photoshop. I’m afraid I’m a lot more sensible than you think 🙂 xx

This is an adorable print! I see you branching from this into tons of fab ideas! I need to own this!

I love the prints on these teacups – I would definitely want to display these on any kitchen countertop. I like the bottom right one especially.

Hope that camera miracle comes your way so you can continue to document what you’re up to!

oh – I hate when mechanical things fail.
truly beautiful – can’t wait to see it all done. I’m the same way – draw – photoshop – illustrator – photocopy – it’s fun doing all that to bring an image alive.

I know, it’s so sad. And after getting the quote to repair it, it turned out to make more sense to buy a new one. What a waste!
Thanks so much for your compliment about this design. Your opinion counts for a lot, I’m sure you know. Pleased to hear we design in similar ways – there’s an element of surprise in this way of working that I really love. I’ve another new design that really took me by surprise on Monday. As I fiddled around in Photoshop etc, not entirely sure that I was happy with what I’d done, I tried something new, just on an offchance, and a little shift of the mouse suddenly resulted in something I hadn’t even considered attempting. It was almost as if the design did some of the work on its own, and I just had to be there to notice, and pounce!
What a nice job we have 🙂

Just wonderful work. I really love designs like the ones on the cups they light up something in my heart! Amazing and can’t wait to see the new design in all its glory!

Each time I am so curious with what you come up with, and it’s always a pleasant surprise! No, I’m not just saying that, I like that you have your own style, and it just fits in with the rest. Thanks for sharing!
