How not to do itYouthful illustrators, a word of advice: When you have a deadline with a brand new client you really want to impress, don’t muck around pointing your camera at your tummy while you attempt to photograph all the nice textures of your pants, belt and tshirt. It’s a waste of time.
And blogging about it is even worse.
But it was my birthday, and I was wearing my favourite outfit, and it does look nice, don’t you think?

On the contrary, and I’m speaking from experience, it’s essential to a good illustration. Along with more cups of tea than you need, long and elaborate blog posts, checking your email every 15 minutes, jotting down ideas for other projects you probably won’t get paid for, and washing the kitchen floor. Oh, and some staring. At nothing. For a good while.
